Celebrate National Trails Day in Wakefield on Saturday, June 7th

Note: Activities will run rain or shine but cancelled if there is lightning, heavy rain, and/or high winds. Trail Building with Ken Bouchard Join Ken for a session on one of our local trails. Wear gloves, bring water, be prepared for sun, bugs, or light rain. Refreshments will be served. Morning session: 9:00 – 12:00 Afternoon session: 1:00 – 4:00 Location: Meet at the MacLaren Cemetery up the hill from the Wakefield Mill. RSVP if you can at wakefieldtrails0@gmail.com or just surprise us and show up. Nordic Pole Walking with Irene Richardson You are invited to join a free Nordic Pole walk. We will start at the Wakefield Community Centre (38 Valley Drive) at 9:30 am. Meet just behind the skateboard park. The walk will follow the trail to Mill Rd, up to MacLaren Cemetery. We will return by Riverside Rd. Hiking will be uphill, downhill, and on the flat with moderate to vigorous intensity for 60-75 minutes. After the walk, enjoy downtown Wakefield and the Farmers Market. Registration: Bring your own poles or please e-mail Iren to reserve a pair of demo poles. Irene@NPWalking.com or 819-459-3284. Trail Quiz Take a walk on the Hendrick Park Trail (starts at Fairbairn House on the east side of the Covered Bridge) before or on June 7th and see if you can answer a series of questions about things you see along the way. Submit your answers at the Wakefield Ensemble Booth at the Farmers Market by 1:00 pm on June 7th or e-mail your answers by Monday, June 9th to wakefieldtrails0@gmail.com  The right answers will be eligible for a draw. Be a winner! Trail Quiz available at the Wakefield Ensemble table at the Farmers Market on May 31st and June 7th or by requesting it by e-mailing: wakefieldtrails0@gmail.com Tree Talk with Leilak Anderson Tree ID Walk! Walk the Wakefield Community Centre (38 Valley Drive) to the Mill Rd Trail with certified arborist, Leilak Anderson, and test your tree identification knowledge. The “walk and talk” will start near the skateboard park at 12:00 noon. Kids and adults alike can learn tips and tricks for increasing their tree-spotting skills in any season. Leilak represents Quebec in the competitive international arboriculture community and has been caring for trees in the Gatineau Hills for over a decade. He is fluently bilingual, so feel free to discuss trees in French or English. Everyone will receive a tree to take home and plant!
